June Meeting Recap

Share & Tell/Swap & Shop
June 5th, 2012

OPRC’s general meeting in June featured lots of sharing! Sharing “Running Tips, Tricks & Insights” was an activity for members to share their best ideas for running, training, racing, recovering, and more! Ideas ranged from remembering to do core work to help with balance and stability to what to do during a hot marathon (run with ice cubes in your hands to cool your extremities.) Ice baths (yes they are hard to do!) are very, very beneficial to recovery and only take about 5 minutes. Investing in some better insoles for your running shoes can also help keep your feet and legs in better shape. Remembering the ABC’s of running (attitude, breathing, and cadence) each time you run or race can also help runners work towards improvement. Cross training and safety tips (bring a phone and small items for first aide, especially for trail runs) were also shared. And don’t forget, the key to faster running isn’t more and more fast running – it’s recovery including rest, relaxation, hydration, and good nutrition! Great ideas, everyone!

The sharing didn’t stop with ideas! OPRC held it’s annual “Swap & Shop” which featured lots of great gently used running gear of all sizes and styles. There were also a few running books and videos among the t-shirts, shorts, and jackets. All members received a ticket which was drawn to determine the order of shopping. Members who brought something to swap went first, followed by those who didn’t have anything to share. It was a great way to clean out your closet and pick up some new gear!

Don’t forget to save your ideas and gear for next year’s “Share & Tell/Swap & Shop.”
