March Meeting Recap

OPRC General Meeting Summary
3/6/2012

Do you hope to be running this time next year? How about in the next five to ten years? How about for the rest of your life? Our March monthly meeting featured Bob Scott, a competitive 80+ year-old runner and Ironman world record holder who seems to just getter better with age. Bob shared many of his thoughts on the aging athlete and how to not only survive but to prosper. Consistency and goal setting top his list of suggestions. For example, not taking weeks off during the winter will help to maintain a consistent level of fitness over time. Taking your resting heart rate every morning was another suggestion to help better understand how your body is responding to training and to know when to take a rest day. Bob believes that stretching, good nutrition, rest, interval training, and weight training are key to staying active into later life. According to Bob, if you are fit and you stay fit while working towards a goal, there’s no reason why you can’t continue to stay in the race! You can do more than you think you can. Finally, don’t forget to have fun and stay positive – think like a winner! Thank you, Bob!

Announcements: We still need volunteers for OPRC’s The Race That’s Good for Life coming up on April 1st. We need you! There are plenty of opportunities to help out and support our club. Don’t forget – your volunteer efforts will earn participation points for the end of the year banquet!
